Concierge suggestions December 23

As every month, find the suggestions and advice of our concierges to enhance your stay at La Maison Favart.‍

Restaurant of the month: Maxim's

The emblematic Belle Époque restaurant on rue Royale in the 8th arrondissement has reopened under the management of the Paris Society group (Laurent de Gourcuff), returning to its former glory. The decor, faithful to art nouveau, remains unchanged, with mirrors, white tablecloths and red banquettes, creating a timelessly chic bistro atmosphere. This legendary venue, a witness to history and host to countless celebrities over the decades, continues its tradition of offering authentic, refined French cuisine. As for desserts, the sweet menu is in the expert hands of renowned pastry chef Yann Couvreur, ensuring a complete culinary experience.

Opera of the month: The Nutcracker

Published in Berlin in 1816, this tale by Hoffmann, a master of German Romanticism, inspired Marius Petipa to create his first dance version in 1892. Amid lead soldiers, rats and oversized dolls, the world of childhood becomes ballet. Clara's dreams and nightmares are supported by Tchaikovsky's sparkling, colorful score. In 1985, Rudolf Nureyev remounted the ballet at the Opéra national de Paris with sets and costumes that underlined the strangeness of the tale. Snowflakes, flowers and enchanted landscapes form the backdrop for dazzling choreography.

Concert of the month: The Analogues

Considered the world's leading Beatles tribute band, this group of Dutch musicians has announced a series of dates in France, including two exceptional concerts scheduled at the Salle Pleyel in Paris on Tuesday, December 12 and Wednesday, December 13, 2023. The now-famous tribute band also plans to make stops in Lyon, Bordeaux and Nantes.

Exhibition of the month: Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso - The invention of language

Gertrude Stein (1874-1946), a Jewish-American immigrant, writer, poet and aesthete, moved to Paris in 1903, shortly after the arrival of Picasso, then a young artist. Their position as foreigners and their marginality underpinned their membership of the Parisian bohemian scene and their artistic freedom. Their friendship crystallized around their respective work, which laid the foundations of Cubism and the 20th century's pictorial and literary avant-gardes. Their posterity is immense.
